Research Workflow, Hiring, and Scaling

Under development

This lesson is part of the course scaffold and is being actively written. The learning objectives and outline below define its final scope.

Learning objectives

By the end of this lesson you will be able to:

  • Design a staged research pipeline from idea intake through validation to capital allocation, with explicit evidence gates at each stage
  • Maintain a research registry that records every tested idea and its outcome, preventing duplicate work and quietly abandoned projects
  • Write role definitions and work-sample evaluations for hiring quantitative researchers and engineers
  • Plan the scaling path from a single book to several, covering capital allocation across books, shared infrastructure, and oversight

Outline

  1. The research pipeline — idea intake, prioritization, and stage gates
  2. Validation standards — what evidence promotes an idea to the next stage
  3. Allocation decisions — from validated research to live capital
  4. Avoiding research graveyards — registries, post-mortems, explicit kill criteria
  5. Hiring quants and engineers — role definitions and work-sample interviews
  6. Onboarding and knowledge transfer — documentation that survives departures
  7. Scaling from one book to several — allocation, shared infrastructure, oversight
